2022 Application Now Open!

Found in Translation is excited to announce that the application for the 2022 Spring and Fall cycles of our Language Access Fellowship program, which provides medical interpreter training and job placement to low-income bilingual women, is now open!
About our Language Access Fellowship Program
Our program is completely free, and offers common-sense supports such as childcare, transportation and technology assistance. Participants receive a 20-week Medical Interpreter Certificate training (including professional development), followed by ongoing job search support and opportunities for direct job placement. Medical interpreting is a rapidly-growing field with typical entry-level hourly wages for W2 employee between $18 and $22 with full benefits, and between $25 and $35 for contractual and per diem positions.
2022 Program Schedule and Expectations
Found in Translation’s programming in 2022 will be held online via Zoom and our online learning management system, CANVAS. (We may add in-person components if/when we feel it is safe to do so.) Students are expected to commit up to 20 hours per week to this program, which includes class time, assigned readings, self paced components, assigned video lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams and completion of professional development components.
Found in Translation will run two classes in 2022, one in the spring (February -June), and one in the fall (August – December). Classes will take place on weekdays/nights, with some Saturday sessions.
Changes in Eligibility and the Application Process
We have made some changes to our admissions process in 2022. To be eligible for our program, an applicant must self-identify as a woman, be fluent in English and another language, be a resident of the Greater Boston area, be eligible to work in the United States and have a high school diploma, be considered low income, and (if employed) earn under $18 or $22/hr, depending on the type of job. All languages are accepted.
In our new process, we will be selecting for both the spring and fall 2022 trainings using one application process. This year, we will guarantee review of the first 100 applications we receive with stated preference for participation in our spring cycle. After that, all additional applications received will be held for consideration for our fall cycle. There is no deadline, and so we encourage interested applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible if they would like to be considered for the Spring 2022 training.
Our selection process is based on economic need and factors that we believe will lead to success in our program and in the medical interpreting profession (including language skills and motivation). We encourage repeat applicants, and we give them special consideration in our selection process.
Information Sessions
To accommodate interest in our program, we will be holding free online information sessions for potential applicants to ask additional questions about our program and application process which may not have been covered in the recorded information session available on our website. Watching the recorded info session is highly encouraged before attending one of these sessions for further questions.
