Interested in volunteering with our Class of 2020?

As we make preparations to carry out our Class of 2020 Medical Interpreter Training later this year, we are interested in connecting with potential volunteers for the following roles:

Volunteer Mentor (remote only)

Volunteer mentors are critical members of the Found in Translation community, helping participants develop their professional skills and prepare them for their career as a professional interpreter. Due to changes in program structure and timeline due to the COVID-19 situation, it is not yet determined when the first date of mentoring will take place, but it is likely to begin in early fall/late summer and run for 14 weeks. Mentoring this year will take place over a remote platform such as Zoom as opposed to in-person. Mentors work with small groups of students once a week, doing 4-6 hours of work per week overall. Topics that are covered in our class are: resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, interview skills, professional attire, etc. Mentors will be provided with curriculum materials and staff support.

Childcare Volunteer (in event of in-person programming)

Found in Translation’s programming is designed to lower barriers for low-income women to achieve economic security. As such, we provide free on-site childcare for participants’ children while they are in class. As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we expect at most that a portion of our program this fall will be in-person, and thus will require childcare volunteers. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, kid-friendly, warm, and reliable. The location for in-person programming is yet to be determined, but it is certain it will be in the Greater Boston area. Children range in age from 6 months-12 years old. Toys are provided by our staff and will be sanitized after each use. We will keep all volunteers posted about our health and safety policies and procedures as they are developed in the coming weeks.
