10 Things You Might Not Know About Found in Translation
1. Currently, our staff is 100% women and a majority speak two or more languages, including Farsi, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Spanish and Chăvash.
2. While our office is now in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester, Found in Translation was based out of Central Square, Cambridge until 2017.
3. Remote and simultaneous interpreting are standard parts of our medical interpreter certificate training curriculum.
4. Each year, up to 50 volunteers support our mission in various roles as mentors, guest speakers, childcare volunteers, and more. Special shoutout to Feda Eid, who has provided pro-bono event and headshot photography since 2013.
5. This past summer, two of our alumnae became the first to be fully licensed interpreter trainers.
6. Current board member Gaye Gentes previously served on staff as our Program Director from 2015 – 2019.
7. Found in Translation is committed to strengthening the interpreting field in the coming years through advocacy and entrepreneurship opportunities for alumnae.
8. Direct job placement opportunities for alumnae now include translation assignments, as well as interpreting.
9. Our Alumnae Association has been gathering regularly (across Boston or online) since 2013, and in that time lots of professional insight – and pizza – has been shared.
